Awaken the Possibilities with The Power of Community

Awaken the Possibilities with The Power of Community
by Dawn Rahicki

Last year, I ventured out into the world and started my own marketing and executive development company. I left behind a talented team, a desirable position and a steady paycheck from a highly acclaimed corporation that offers more benefits than I can now remember.

On May 1, 2006, the first Monday after my last day of corporate life, I sat at my desk in my home office and wondered, what now? After busying myself for years in positions where I chose to rarely work less than 50 hours a week and skipped more vacations than I took, it was now completely up to me. The house had never been so quiet.

Id been in the business world for over 20 years helping build and market others businesses, but this was different. On that first day, I felt very alone. Having been someone who disliked asking for help or feeling vulnerable, it was a scary day.

Once on my path, I connected with some of the most supportive, intelligent, and resourceful people I have ever known. Some were people Id known for years and was fortunate to have in my life, while others were newer friends. By widening my community and network, I was privileged to add or strengthen friendships with people of impressive character, talent, intelligence and generosity of spirit. As my circle grew, so did my confidence. I felt stronger and able to take on any challenge. I was amazed by and grateful for their gracious support and committed to paying it forward by returning the same kind of caring support, friendship and resourcefulness to others.

Those around us who lift us up, share their stories and resources, have honest but constructive reality checks with us when we need it, are in our corner with no agenda, make us laugh and hold our confidences are to be treasured. There is plenty for everyone and no need to push others down, judge them or pass along fear to feed our egos when we can raise them up, grow and succeed together while having a whole lot of fun in the process. In a world where many of us come from a place of lack, ego or fear, it is a blessing to have these safe havens to go to for friendship, wisdom, support and confidentiality.

Whether you are a parent or have no children, are married or single, working for others or yourself, or managing a household, you are not alone if you reach out. It is your choice. We all have so much in common and a great deal to contribute. Weve had similar fears, challenges, questions and stumbles on our journey, so why not share our time, resources and stories so we can learn from one another?

Take a chance. Grow your own community a little bit each day. Reach out to someone by asking for advice or lending your support. Pay it forward as a thank-you to someone who helped you on your journey when you needed it. Youll be glad you did. When we take the time to raise each other up, the possibilities for all of us expand and were the better for it.

Im grateful to be part of this community and am grateful for my ever-expanding community of dear friends, colleagues and adopted family.

Ten Ways to Write Great Blog Posts That Get Attention

Ten Ways to Write Great Blog Posts That Get Attention
by Courtland Bovee

Millions of blogs fight for readership online (over 75 million by some counts), with thousands more being created every day. Making yours stand above the rest may seem like a daunting task, but here are ten suggestions for making your blog posts stand out from the crowd.

1. Write each post title so it grabs the reader's attention. It is the first thing someone reads, and it should get your reader's attention right away. Your title should both pique the reader's interest and be informative. Do not write "Business Writing Advice"; instead, say "The Best-Kept Secret to Reducing Your Business Writing Worries." Longer titles have the advantage of describing in detail what your post is about; 8-12 words are a good range.

2. Keep sentences short and clear. A little goes a long way. Readers are busy people and they will not spend hours detangling complex syntax or sifting through blocks of text. Also, use strong language. Start a new paragraph every few sentences, and limit each post to 250 words, if possible. If you cannot write it in under 250 words, split it into two entries.

3. Break up the text. Use numbered lists, bullet points, and subheadings to make your posts easy to scan. Lots of white space on the page is a good thing-it allows your reader to take mental breaks and let the knowledge soak in. In addition, with the inevitable clutter of banner ads and side text, this technique puts some distance between your writing and all those distractions.

4. Keep current. No one wants to read old news. Your job is to stay up-to-date so your readers do not have to themselves. Read newspapers. Scour the web for references. For example, if you write a blog about business communication, subscribe to Google News Alerts using keywords related to the field, such as blogs, podcasting, instant messaging, business letters, memos, and business reports, so you will always be well informed. Posting items from last month or last year will lose your reader's interest faster than you can say "Enron."

5. Be bold. Timidity is an easy path to anonymity. Do not be afraid to create and state your opinions. Of course, there are some situations in which objectivity rules-but you have to give people a reason to read this blog by you and not by the person next door.

6. Be accurate. If you make a statement, be prepared to back it up. Know what your sources are and quote them accurately. Misinformation spreads like wildfire online; do not be the spark that sets it off or the wind that fans it.

7. Contribute to the conversation. Links are great-but then what? Do not just post links to the same tired sites, offer your reader something new. Contribute to the conversation. Your goal is to be the site to which everyone else is linking-so you had better have something worth writing about.

8. Stay focused. Once you have defined the theme of your blog, stick to it. A blog about piggy banks has no business posting about the latest innovation in alternative energy. Such a deviance will only confuse your reader and chip away at your virtual authority.

9. Use key words liberally. Keywords are, well, key. Harness your blog's search engine potential by dousing your title and post with effective keywords that will help interested parties find your page in the vast, muddled blogosphere. This is one of the most important elements of getting your blog read-go at it with gusto.

10. Be consistent. Keep a schedule and stick to it. Post frequently-at least several times per week if you want to increase your potential of attracting new readers. Let your blog languish for weeks without updates and your audience will move on to fresher ground.

Maintaining an informative blog that people want to read takes hard work and good writing skills. Find what makes your writing unique-and flaunt it for all it is worth.

Smart Real Estate Investing Tips

Smart Real Estate Investing Tips
by Ben Euporian

Real estate investing is a topic that many people wonder about. The earning potential of a smart investor is extremely high, because unlike nearly every other type of investment, real estate does not typically decrease in value. When you are looking for a way to ensure your security for the future, or to build a retirement portfolio, real estate is a good vehicle to use. Here are some things that you might want to know about real estate investing

- Work with a mortgage broker. When you are considering financing options for the purchase of your investment property, contact a mortgage broker to see if he can help you to find financing that is the most advantageous for you. Shop around, and talk to several different brokers to get a feel for experience and access.

- Dont pass over properties that you may be able to resell to other investors. Sometimes it is a good idea to purchase a property that is an excellent value simply because it is a property that is attractive to other investors. Keep in mind that when you purchase a property that is not what you are looking for or one that requires extensive work, it may end up being a long term investment. However, when someone who specializes in rehabbing comes along you are likely to make a substantial commission on the sale.

- Research potential properties before purchasing them. When buying a rental property, there are several key features that you should be looking for. The first is sustainability. Is the property in solid condition and is it going to stay that way with minimal upkeep? The second is the location. Yes, location is extremely important for most rental properties. You need to ensure that your tenants can get to where they need to go and that the property is near commonly used retailers and service providers. The third is the average income of the area. This is different from physical location, because you should keep in mind that a high rent area is definitely a better location than a low rent area. And, in high rent areas location is often less of a concern than in low rent areas.

- Start by purchasing a home of your own. If you are not already a homeowner, it is probably a good idea to purchase a home before you purchase an investment property. There are several reasons, but perhaps the most important is that you will learn the process of purchasing a property by actually buying one. It is not unusual for investors to turn their first home into their first investment property, because the property and the market become familiar entities.

- Let potential home sellers know youre looking to buy. One way to find hidden investment properties is to distribute flyers around a neighborhood in which you would like to buy. Consider having someone drop them door to door. A thousand flyers will only cost you around fifty dollars, and you never know who might give you a call to discuss or point you in the direction of a property. And, much like business cards, you never know who is going to see your contact information. This is an excellent outreach technique when you would like to get your name out there and to find properties that meet your criteria.

- Consider living in your own rental property. A good strategy to consider when you are looking to purchase an investment property is purchasing a multi-unit property and becoming an occupant. The advantages include low cost living, because the other rents coming in should cover a good portion of the mortgage payments, higher deductions at the end of the year and the ability to stay current on maintenance.

- Find a great attorney. Before you become involved in the purchase of an investment property, you should form a relationship with a real estate attorney who is familiar with situations similar to yours. This is especially true if you are attempting to purchase a property with non-conventional financing, because an attorney will help you to ensure that you are making good decisions in terms of your investment.

- Know exactly what youre getting in to. If you are considering purchasing a rental property with existing tenants, it is imperative that you have access to all tenant records prior to signing a purchase agreement. Otherwise, you may be inheriting another landlords problem. Keep in mind that you will most likely not be able to increase the rent amounts after purchasing an occupied property for at least the duration of the existing lease.

Hopefully, the information presented here has given you new insight into the world of real estate investing. Our intention is that you can now take this information and put it into play in your own investment plan. Careful planning is the first step to financial freedom, and real estate is an excellent vehicle for carrying out the plan.

Wildfire Preparedness: The Five Aspects Of Readiness

Wildfire Preparedness: The Five Aspects Of Readiness
by Paul Purcell

A classic 70s tune gives us the lyrics, She ran calling Wildfire.. Then a love song, but today, possibly the beginnings of an action / adventure / horror movie. With rainfall low, and temperatures and winds high, the wildfires were currently battling across the country are heavily taxing our first responder assets. More fires will surely follow if these conditions continue.

First responder assets aside, these fires have affected local civilians. Thousands have evacuated, and many find nothing but charred vacant lots when they return. What are some innovative ways civilians can protect themselves, their property, and actually help firefighters in the process?

At the household level, most of us have smoke detectors. Thats good, because in a house fire, as in a wildfire, where theres smoke, theres F.L.A.M.E.:

Family Something as massive as a wildfire will affect your whole family. Prepare them now.

Landscaping Simple and subtle steps can make your property much more fire resistant.

Awareness In an emergency, time is crucial. Stay aware of the threat and get the warnings early.

Moisture Some say you fight fire with fire. We say you fight fire with water.

Evacuation Even after taking all the other steps, a wildfire is something best avoided.

Family

A prepared and involved family is far more able to handle any type of disaster than those who wait for last-minute instruction. Therefore, one of the best things you can do for your family is to prepare them for one of the most common and least forgiving enemies; fire.

1. Take the family on a fire-safety tour through the house. Locate dangers such as overloaded electrical outlets and safety items such as extinguishers and escape routes.

2. In emergencies, redundancy is our friend. You should have more than one smoke detector, fire extinguisher, and escape route from rooms or the house. Hint: If youre a heavy sleeper, buy a baby monitor. Put the transmitter near the farthest smoke detector and the receiver in your bedroom.

3. Make sure everyone in the family knows how to use a fire extinguisher, and how to call 911.

4. Have regular fire drills. Let each family member have a turn being the one who discovers the fire and who has to warn others. On at least every other drill, have everyone evacuate blind-folded on their hands and knees (while exercising due safety) to mimic the realistic conditions of a fire evacuation.

5. Revisit every family emergency plan with the whole family during wildfire season and certainly if one is in your area and possibly heading your way.

Landscaping

Though tragedies usually take the lead in newscasts, stories still abound of how some homeowners managed to protect their properties from wildfire by simple and subtle changes with their landscaping and home. Take these steps now, since in a fire, time is of the essence.

1. Your main landscaping consideration is to remove any dead, dry vegetation, whether on the ground or in your trees, that could transfer fire to your house. Since this aspect of wildfire preparedness has been adequately covered by others, here are a few good outside sources:

- General wildfire landscaping tips: http://www.firewise.org/resources/files/wildfr2.pdf

- Florida wildfire landscaping pointers: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/FR/FR07600.pdf

- More on landscaping during wildfire season: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/FR/FR04700.pdf

- Fire-resistant plants: http://web1.msue.msu.edu/emergency/pubs/wildfire_resistant.pdf

2. Be ready to seal your house before evacuating. Create covers for any opening on your home such as attic vents (roof turbines can be covered with metal trash cans), crawlspace openings, etc. Gather your material (such as plywood) and cut, paint, and label (where it goes) each cover now, keeping them stored on your property for immediate use. Put a couple of hooks over each opening you might cover and drill corresponding holes in the plywood covers. The hooks will hold the cover in place while you drill in the screws. This allows one person to do the job and frees up others to perform other necessary tasks. Hint: Also make covers for your windows (including garage door windows) just as if you lived in a hurricane zone.

3. Create a fire tool box and include everything needed to prep your house in advance of a wildfire. Store extra garden hoses, water sprinklers, Y connectors for extra hoses, wrenches to turn off your gas, rolls of heavy-duty aluminum foil (to cover the openings you didnt make covers for), machetes and gloves for last minute brush clearing, etc. Store extra tools because you wont have time to replace tools that might have been broken or lost.

4. Make sure first responders can see your homes address. Put your house number on your mailbox, near your front door, and painted on the curb by your driveway.

Awareness

A common theme in all our publications and presentations is the fact that in an emergency, our most crucial asset is time (see our other articles at http://www.disasterprep101.com). The two key elements of time in a wildfire are one, to have as much done in advance as possible, and two, get as early a warning as possible.

1. Dont wait for a wildfire to approach to start your landscaping. Perform that now and keep your property as fire-retardant as you can.

2. Dont wait for the smell of smoke to warn you a fire is on its way. If fire conditions are right, monitor news channels and listen for community warnings.

3. Learn to recognize your community warnings. Does your community have a reverse 911 system? Sirens? Will the local TV or radio station broadcast the alert? If your community doesnt have any of these systems, why not start them in your neighborhood? At the very least, have a phone tree.

4. Buy an NOAA Weather Alert Radio since theyre being incorporated into the overall Emergency Alert System. You should also know who your local Ham Radio operators are. See http://www.arrl.org

Moisture

Water is the king of firefighting and fire suppression substances. The best protection for your property lies in your ability to keep a dome of moisture in one form or another all over and around your home.

1. One publication under landscaping above lists beneficial plants that hold their moisture well. Regardless of the types of plant life in your yard, keep them well hydrated (while following watering ordinances).

2. When setting up your sprinklers, give your yard adequate spray coverage, especially over areas that might worsen the fire such as an above-ground propane tank or wooden deck attached to your house. The best sprinkler for surface areas is the professional directional type rather than the small garden variety that only sprays a weak pattern over a small area. Your garden store rep can help.

3. Put sprinklers on your roof, being sure to anchor them in place since the high winds generated in some wildfire wind storms can blow them off the roof.

4. If you have an in-ground sprinkler system, great! It will give you even water coverage over the grounds and provide a good foundation for the comprehensive water system youll need. To your in-ground system add separate fire lines that feed water to sprinklers that either spray directly against your house, or outward from your yard to cover vegetation surrounding your property. Too, have a sprinkler line permanently installed on your roof to save you the time of manually putting sprinklers up there. Also, install an additional input valve to allow water from a secondary source like a water pump drawing from your swimming pool.

5. If you have a pool, pond, well, or creek, you have a reservoir that should be put to good use so you dont draw off the municipal water firefighters need to prevent fire from nearing your property in the first place. Its a simple matter to keep a gas-powered generator (which self-reliant families should have) and a water pump (such as a pressure-washer), and use the two to draw water from your pool and feed it to your sprinklers. If you have a well with an electric pump, hook your generator to the pump to keep it running should local power fail. Exercise caution when setting up your generator so it doesnt start its own fire.

6. A final consideration with sprinklers is position. Cover the outer perimeter of your yard, spray against the outer walls and roof of your house, and cover the crowns of your trees if possible. Also, consider outward-pointing sprinklers anchored to an elevated position such as an upper floor deck or porch, or your roof.

Evacuation

We strongly recommend evacuation, even if youve taken all the above steps and feel they might work. Its best that you be pre-prepped and ready to leave at a moments notice since time is our most valuable asset. The more ready you are in advance, the more time you have.

1. All your landscaping steps should be taken care of now and maintained, especially during fire season.

2. In wildfire-prone areas, and especially during wildfire season, keep your bugout kits and vehicle ready at all times (with fuel tanks topped off). Hint: With your documents, keep the non-emergency numbers for local authorities so you can call to find out when its safe to return.

3. Perform last-minute landscaping ONLY if time allows, since youll want extra time to perform the household shutdown steps. However, dont do anything until youve loaded your car with provisions and have nothing left to load but people and pets (in their carriers and/or ready to go).

4. Inside the house do the following:

- Move all flammables (such as furniture and curtains) away from windows making sure each is closed and latched. Lower and close any metallic blinds.

- Leave your fireplace damper open, and close the fireplace protective cover.

- Close all interior doors but dont lock them.

- Turn off your heat/AC system, and cover any window air-conditioners or floor heater vents with aluminum foil and duct tape inside and out.

- Turn off all gas coming into the house whether from underground line or above-ground tank.

- Turn on inside and outside lights so your property is visible in heavy smoke. Firefighters may need to use it as a beacon.

5.To protect the valuables you dont have room for in your evacuation vehicle, consider these:

- For waterproof valuables, put them in a bathtub, storage tub, or trashcan youve filled with water. (Notice we didnt recommend your pool, since you should be using it to feed your sprinklers.)

- Large valuables such as antique furniture, etc. should be carried into the center of the house on the lowest floor (the same place youd go in a tornado).

- Major appliances, such as your oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, clothes washer, and dryer, tend not to be consumed by flame or crushed by debris and thereby offer a protected storage location for other valuables. Hint: Disposable diapers are surprisingly flame resistant, and might be useful as wraps for some items stored in an appliance.

6.Lock up the house, leave a note on the door telling authorities youve evacuated, check with neighbors to make sure theyre on their way to safety, hop in your vehicle, and leave. Hint: If the area is getting smoky, listen to your radio for road closure information, turn your headlights on low, and set your climate controls to re-circulate so as not to draw in smoke from outside the vehicle.

Naturally, this is an article that could go for a few dozen more pages since its such an important topic and certainly one where we could offer extensive detail. For now, this will have to do. Will the above information make you fireproof and prevent any damage to your property? No. But its very likely to help, especially if you take these steps now. Taking these measures also helps firefighters since any time a wildfire is delayed or a home protected, you take one more item off the shoulders of first responders. Prep now, stay safe, and remember that preparedness is not only a social responsibility; its your only true protection.

Local search service India simplifies life anywhere in India

Local search service India simplifies life anywhere in India
by Amit Bhalla

The internet revolution has extended the horizon of the people and made the world a smaller place. Information is now at everyones fingertips and the click of a mouse can open up a world of opportunities. India, riding on the revolutionary waves, has progressed tremendously over the last decade. It is now a reality that an online directory can give you any information required about any town or city in India. Local search service India is such a concept that offers information related to the address and contact number for any facility starting from a movie hall to hospitals, restaurants, retail stores and more.

Imagine relocating to a new neighborhood, possibly in another city or maybe you have just shifted to India from abroad. New people, new language and new locality, new culture, seem overwhelming for any person and can add to the emotional and mental stress of any person. Local search service India eliminates all these possibilities. The service can be your best friend and guide, no matter where you have relocated in India. It is now easy to know any locality like the back of your hand thanks to local search service India. It saves you the awkwardness of asking around for directions from locals who may not be friendly enough to offer helpful directions and advice.

The local search service India is also a boon for aged people or single women living alone in metropolitan cities and big towns. The ready availability of contact details and directions of emergency facilities like the hospitals, police stations and such other numbers in the vicinity makes them feel much safer. It also reduces their dependence on any friend or neighbor and gives them greater sense of self confidence. Local search service India makes it possible for any person to feel at home in any city of this country. India lives up to its reputation as a hospitable country when a foreigner to the country finds immediate help in the form of an online website offering local search service India.

Even a person who resides in a particular locality may be aware of only a number of places that he frequents on a regular basis, as for example maybe only four Chinese restaurants in the area may be known to him. A local search service India may pleasantly surprise him with a list of sixteen such restaurants which can be found in the vicinity and were not known to him. So we see the local search service India facility not only helps newcomers but also the old residents by broadening their horizons and increasing the options in life. Web accessibility is now also available from the mobile handsets of some companies. Imagine getting any information by simply sending a sms to a local search service India directory provider.

As the mode of communication increases life is becoming simpler. Information is easily available and accessible via the internet and mobiles. And services like the local search service India have further added to the convenience of information seekers.

5 Top Tips for Managing Your Emails

5 Top Tips for Managing Your Emails
by Tracey Lawton

Technology is a wonderful thing - it allows us to work virtually, from anywhere in the world, and makes our lives easier. However, it can also hinder us, and this is particularly true in the case of emails.

Every day we are bombarded with hundreds of emails, only a small percentage of which are necessary. Spam filters are great at filtering most of the unwanted emails but a small amount do get through, adding to the number we have to sift through!

We can spend hours each day checking, sorting, and reading our emails only to find we haven't the time left for actual work! Here are my top 5 tips for managing your emails and giving you back your much-needed time.

1. Emails aren't urgent! Don't feel you have to read an act upon your email the second it hits your inbox. You don't! It isn't urgent. If there was a real emergency then your client/colleague/friend would call you.

2. Are all those newsletters you subscribe to really necessary? Probably not! If this the case spend some time going through them and unsubscribing the ones you don't really want or read.

3. Does your email play distracting alerts, i.e. a sound? If so, disable it. This is a distraction and you could quite easily stop what you're working on to go and check your emails. It will then take you some time to get back on track again, not to mention the amount of time you've just lost stopping what you were doing, reading your emails, and actioning them.

4. Schedule set times to check your emails. Once or twice a day is enough, say first thing in the morning and again later in the day. If you subscribe to various industry groups save reading these emails until you take a break from your work - maybe at the end of the day when you're winding down. You can easily get sidetracked reading all the different topics and replying to them, all of which is taking you away from your paid work.

5. Utlise email filtering tools. Set up folders and filters so that your email gets sent to the appropriate folder as soon as it arrives. Don't know how to do this? Read my article Is Your Inbox Getting You Down? How to Avoid Inbox Overwhelm available on my website.

If you follow these 5 tips above, you will find you are spending less time worrying about and checking your emails, and more time on being productive! That has got to be better for your bottom line.

Japanese Cooking

Japanese Cooking
by Jonathon Hardcastle

Do you love Japanese food? The funny thing about Japanese food is that you either love it or you hate it. There is no in-between. And chances are, if you hate it, you probably havent really tasted Japanese food yet or havent given yourself a chance to sample it enough. Japanese food is hard to appreciate after only one bite. And sometimes, the idea that you are tasting raw food just wont escape your mind that you are already predisposed to hating Japanese food even before you actually taste it.

Personally, I love Japanese food. There really is no other cuisine like it in the world in terms of its unique taste and presentation. Who would believe that something so raw could be so delicious? For those of you who have not yet discovered the pleasures of Japanese food, allow me to present the following primer.

The standard Japanese meal always involves a bowl of white rice as well as soup and side dishes such as pickles, vegetables, meat and fish. Japanese food is classified by the number of viands or okazu that are served with the rice, soup and side dishes. A meal with one okazu is called ichiju-issai and a prime example of this is the traditional Japanese breakfast which consists of miso soup, rice, grilled fish and one pickled vegetable.

The regular Japanese meal usually involves three okazu to go along with the soup, rice and pickles. Traditionally, each of these three okazu are cooked in a different way from the others. They can either be served raw or grilled, simmered, steamed or deep fried.

Another hallmark of Japanese food is seafood, which is the most popular and most widely consumed food in Japan. The most popular dishes include all types of fish as well as shellfish, squid and octopus. Crab is another favorite delicacy and so are whale and seaweed. Despite the fact that Japanese are not heavy meat eaters, you will hardly find any vegetarians among them either probably owing to their deep fashion for seafood. Beef and chicken are also popular among the Japanese.

What A Mother Should Eat During Breast Feeding

What A Mother Should Eat During Breast Feeding
by Lisa Lee

It is very important for a breastfeeding mother to have a healthy and balanced diet. A variety of foods are required during this period including:

Get lots of vegetables and fruits try and have an intake of 5 portions a day of fruit and vegetables.

For additional energy try and take in starch rich foods such as bread, pasta, potatoes, pulses and rice this will provide a good source of energy.

Foods such as whole meal bread, vegetables, pulses, cereals and pastas will provide fibre women occasionally experience bowel problems after childbirth and an intake of fibre on a daily basis will help with this.

Proteins such as lean meat, fish, eggs and poultry.

Try and get two portions of fish per week (including some oily fish). Do not exceed 2 portions of oily fish per week.

Dairies such as cheese, milk and yoghurt are an excellent source of calcium and should be included in a breast feeding mothers diet.

Some doctors advise taking vitamin supplements such as Vitamin D (10 mcg per day). Your doctor will be able to advise which supplements will be right for you.

In addition to the foods that you should eat above there are certain food types that you should steer clear of at this time.

As above you should restrict your intake of oily fish to two portions per week but you should also avoid eating more than one portion of swordfish, marlin or shark per week as these fish contain high levels of mercury.

You should also be careful with your intake of caffeine and alcohol. It is true that some breast feeding babies react to the foods that their mother has consumed.

Some doctors believe that it is wise to lay off peanuts during this stage as well approximately 2% of the population is allergic to peanuts however your baby may have a higher chance of being allergic if the mother/father/brothers/sisters have problems such as asthma, eczema or hay fever. If you believe your baby may be at risk due to these factors it is worth consulting your doctor.

The Difference Between Decaffeinated and Regular Green Tea

The Difference Between Decaffeinated and Regular Green Tea
by Tom G. Antion

Is Decaffeinated Green Tea Less Beneficial Than Regular Green Tea?

Decaffeinated green tea has the main purpose of giving people the antioxidants and other health benefits of green tea without caffeine. Many think it is not regular green tea since it is decaffeinated, they thing they wont get the same amount of benefits and components found in the regular green tea however, this isnt true. The same amount of EGCG has been found in decaffeinated green tea compared to regular green tea and you can even check the product listing before purchasing if you want.

For such products as decaffeinated green tea there are two types of decaffeinating methods used. One of these uses ethyl acetate solvent that retains thirty percent of the polyphenols that are healthy and beneficial. The more natural process uses water and carbon dioxide. Another way that is used quite often is for the drinker to decaffeinate the tea since many dont want caffeine in their tea.

Anywhere from fifteen to thirty mg of caffeine is in a cup of regular green tea. This is actually necessary to provide the bitterness of green tea, although it is not appreciated by some. One cup of green tea contains enough caffeine to produce stimulant effects to the central nervous system.

By completing a very simple process it is possible to naturally remove the caffeine yourself. For about 45 seconds in hot water you should steep the tea, then pour off the liquid. Then add more hot water and for a second time pour off the liquid.

Then as you would normally do for a cup of tea you should add more hot water and steep. The first infusion of water will removed about eighty percent of the caffeine, so the second time through there are only small amounts of caffeine left. There are many positive benefits to decaffeinating your tea, the major one is that you dont feel the affects that caffeine normal produces such as nervousness or fidgetting.

Archiving in the Technological Era

Archiving in the Technological Era
by Stephen J. Richards

Data retention has long been a vital business practice, allowing companies to use client information, assess company growth, and retrieve and manipulate data on past performance, all with the goal of propelling business growth and success. A number of factors contribute to a companys need to retain data, such as future analyses of business processes and compliance with government regulations that continue to lay out stricter requirements regarding the retention, disclosure and disposal of business data. The technological era has brought about a proliferation of electronic file data, spurring revolutionary change in the way data is collected, retrieved, archived and disclosed.

Businesses are faced with the challenge of adhering to varying data retention requirements at the federal and state levels. Many recent laws have increased the length of time that businesses must retain data, placing increasing pressure on companies to institute data archiving systems with the capacity to securely store increasing amounts of information, possibly for decades. Besides placing time requirements on data retention, regulations also require that data be secure, unable to be edited and produced on demand with short notice. To ensure security and that records are retained in a non-editable format, organizations must have an archiving system separate from the operational and reference data that is still needed for frequent business transactions and queries.

Some notable sanctions propelling the need for businesses to implement a comprehensive data retention system are the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and BASEL II. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which imposes strict standards regarding the retention of accounting data, was overwhelmingly passed in 2002 by the United States House of Representatives and the Senate. HIPAA, commonly known as the Privacy Rule, is a health industry standard aimed at allowing the flow of patients health data for health research purposes without disclosing an individuals protected health information, and requiring entities to preserve and be prepared to readily disclose data for six years. Similarly, BASEL II places disclosure requirements on the financial industry.

Ever increasing data retention requirements also place monumental pressure on enterprise data availability software companies to produce the most advanced archiving solutions with tremendous capacities and prolonged reliability. Available data archiving solutions give companies the capability of storing great amounts of data that is no longer needed for business purposes in a protected, non-editable format in a location that will not affect the data that is crucial to business operations. Such systems can provide a user friendly interface to streamline implementation of a companys data archiving strategy, and automatically discard information once it reached the mandatory data retention time frame.

What Are The Early Indications You May Be A Victim of Identity Theft ?

What Are The Early Indications You May Be A Victim of Identity Theft ?
by Leon Edward

Identity theft can be extremely scary, and if you have recently lost a credit card or other types of financial documents, you are at high and immediate risk of being a victim of identity theft. If an identity thief gets a hold of your social security number or your drivers license, they may even be able to pass themselves off as you. Once they have your credit card, they can actually start racking up bills in your name as well.

If you see any evidence that someone has been tampering with your mail, this may be an early warning that someone is trying to steal your identity. Also, if your credit card bills have not arrived when they should, you should starting having some serious questions in your mind. At times identity thieves can actually get these statements so you are not able to see what is going on with your finances.

Another very strong sign that you may be a victim of identity theft is that if you see bills arriving for purchases you know you never made. This is another reason that identity thieves may try to get your mail so you do not know what is going on. Some times an identity thief can actually start to have your mail delivered to somewhere else, so if you do not receive important documents like bank statements and credit card bills, you may want to start looking into the problem.

Even if your bills and bank statements are not getting through to you, you may still be able to find some signs of the problem. You may be getting receipts, follow up promotions, and even thank you letters from companies you have never heard of before. Also, you may find that creditors start trying to contact you by telephone. If this happens, then you may have been a victim of identity theft.

You may also find that you have other problems with various financial services as well. Maybe you try to get a mortgage or a credit card, only to find out that your credit score has mysteriously dropped. This means you need to get a copy of your credit report to see what is going on with your credit that you do not know about. You may also get turned down for state benefits or social security as well. If they tell you that you are already getting these benefits, then it is probably because a identity thief is already getting those benefits under your name.

At times you could even find out that someone got a mobile phone and signed up for an extremely expensive contract and phone, all by using your name as well. If you find that you have evidence of a problem, then you need to start reviewing your finances to see what is going on. If you can detect identity theft early on, you will be able to take care of the problem before it becomes extremely bad for your credit and reputation.

Christmas Reviving the Outrageous Old-Time 12 Days of Christmas Fun!

Christmas Reviving the Outrageous Old-Time 12 Days of Christmas Fun!
by Bernadette Dimitrov

The twelve days refers to the twelve festive days after Christmas that is from 26th December to the 6th January. Celebrated since medieval times it started on the day after Christmas as Christmas day traditionally was considered holy and not for partying'. The 12 days were filled with merry-making and continuous feasting. It was once a most welcomed break for the workers where all work accept for looking after animals would stop and restart again on Plough Monday' the first Monday after the Twelfth night. Traditionally a Yule log was kept alight for these 12 days and was considered a bad omen if it went out before time!

During the twelve days it was popular for people to visit each other with traditional minced pies. A Lord of Misrule was appointed and role reversals were common. For example masters would serve their slaves and even slaves could hold a public position during the 12 days.

A popular 18th century tradition was called the Twelfth Night'. On the twelfth night people would disguise themselves with animal masks and costumes while celebrations were rife! Often pantomimes were performed which mocked the traditional authority where rules were turned upside down! Another tradition rose on this night where men dressed as women and women dressed as men! Celebrations were always followed with the eating of a Twelve Night Cake' in which the person who found a pea (specially baked into the pie) in their slice was deemed King or Queen and were waited on with much delight!

Later evolved the game known as charades' played out on the Twelfth Night. It is believed to have arisen out of these earlier fun celebrations. Cards were presented and you had to act out over the Twelfth Night the character on your card.

Twelfth Night Practical Jokes! Particularly in England during the 18th century they loved to play practical jokes which became a much loved tradition on the Twelfth Night. You may recall the children's verse Four and Twenty Black Birds Baked in a Pie' which is related to a famous English practical joke commonly played during this time. Presented to guests on their plates were pie cases with live birds hidden inside. To the much surprised guests once they opened the crusts the birds began to sing then fly off. I think it is good that this particular joke is no longer practiced as it is not kind to the birds to encase them even if it was only for a short time - it is not humane behavior.

Unfortunately today the Twelfth Night celebrations are no longer practiced and are a faint memory now part of history. The Twelve Night is more commonly known today for putting away one's Christmas tree and decorations and a holy day of celebration for the Three Kings who it is said took twelve days to find the baby Jesus.

The Internet And Security - How To Avoid The Pitfalls

The Internet And Security - How To Avoid The Pitfalls
by John Mailer

According to many Internet experts, Internet and security concerns are foremost on people's minds nowadays. With all of the security and Internet stories about identity theft, Internet worms, Trojan horse viruses, and spyware, everyone wants to make sure that they have the best Internet security available. The problem is that the Internet is still a fairly new technology. Even the most tech savvy of us usually don't know how it works, or how to adequately protect ourselves. In general, we are stuck taking the advice of anyone who will give it to us. We take their word about what are the best Internet and security solutions without really knowing how to investigate it ourselves. In general, we don't know where Internet security problems start, or how to fix them.

I have been researching Internet and security lately, and what I have found has surprised me. It turns out that Internet security and privacy have a lot more to do with the programs that you are running than what websites you go to. Users of Apple computers, for example, almost never get viruses. They are rarely exposed to worms, or identity theft problems provided that they adequately protect their passwords. The same goes for users of Linux. As a matter of fact, the only operating system which is routinely exposed to Internet and security threats is Windows. Anyone who uses Windows and is concerned about Internet and security Should really think about changing operating systems. It is easier to do than you might think.

The reason that Windows is such a Web security risk has a lot to do with the way that it is put together. Basically, is made to do everything for you. If you use Microsoft Mail, for example, it will automatically open files without asking you, never knowing whether or not a virus lurks inside. At every level, it is written with Internet and security concerns as an afterthought. This means that it is Completely filled with holes. When these holes are discovered, they will send out Internet and security bug fixes. Until someone is victimized, however, they usually have no idea that the programs are at risk.

Of course, Internet Web security is another problem altogether. A lot of Internet and security problems start in the computer, but other ones start with Internet transactions. E commerce security is not quite as good as a lot of the companies would have you believe. Often, passwords and financial information are stolen from Internet web sellers. No matter how good your own security is, if you buy from someone with a flawed system, you could be the victim.

What You Need To Know About Ipod Docking Stations

What You Need To Know About Ipod Docking Stations
by Terry Roberts

The iPod docking station is probably the must have accessory to go with your iPod, especially if you are a constant or frequent user. The docking station allows the iPod to fully charge while still allowing the listener to enjoy their music without interruption. The docking station also keeps the iPod safe and secure, avoiding the chance of damage if it were simply left on a chair or on a table.

There are several different options in iPod docking stations and the choice is largely one of price and convenience. For the tiny iPod Nano, a simple docking cradle gives the basic stability to the player and allows the Nano to be synched to the computer for downloads while charging. While the simple cradle does not have speakers of its own, an audio-out port allows the Nano in the docking cradle to be connected to external speakers, headphones, or even through your computer to play all your favorite songs while charging the battery. Typically these smaller cradle style docking stations are less than $20.00 US.

Larger docking stations for iPod Video or MP3 players typically have built-in speakers on either side of the docking cradle. These speakers are designed to be ultra high quality to preserve the sound from the iPod itself. Many of the larger docking stations come with surround sound speakers, subwoofers, tweeters and 3-D sound processors for an amazing sound quality from a small package. As with the simple cradle docking stations, the iPod is easily connected to the computer with a USB cable or FireWire connection. This allows synchronizing and downloading of songs while charging the batteries on the iPod and listening to tracks through the speakers.

Some docking stations have optional battery power to charge the iPods, typically using four or more AA batteries. This additional battery feature makes it an ideal choice for having to connect to a computer in areas where there are not enough power outlets, or even for playing and charging your iPod outside or in remote areas. Most of the larger, speaker-equipped docking stations range in price from $30.00 to under $100.00. There are some very unique in-wall docking stations that keep your iPod in a safely recessed dock that is permanently mounted to a wall behind or near your computer, but these are usually quite a bit more expensive. In addition many of the docking stations also have radios and additional features to make them more versatile.

When purchasing an iPod docking station it is important to carefully read what size and type of iPod the docking station can handle. Typically iPod docking stations will have additional inserts to allow them to hold a Nano but not all can hold the smaller, new generation of iPods.

How To Deal With Credit Card Offers

How To Deal With Credit Card Offers
by Mario Churchill

In this day and age, plastic rules, not just because of convenience and safety features but also because of the opportunities for rewards and rebates that many competitive credit card companies offer. You no longer have to look too hard for credit card offers because they will find you. The only question is how to pick one that will give you the best deal. If this is your current dilemma, here are some simple tips to help you narrow down your choice:

Never go random.

When there are so many credit card offers out there that seem to offer the same things, it can be tempting to just sign up for whatever card comes along. This is not a good way of taking advantage of credit card offers. Never pick a credit card based some random advertisement, a recommendation, pressure from the credit card company or a purchase emergency.

Consider what you'll use it for.

While a credit card can give you a semblance of financial freedom, it is still a form of debt, that's why it's called a credit card. Before you decide on a credit card offer, think about what you'll need to use it for and how often you think you'll be using it.

Say for example you're the type who likes to frequent a certain establishment and usually use credit for your purchases, you might want to consider a credit card from that store if they're offering one. That credit card will often carry with it a lot of great discounts, rewards, cash rebates and special privileges when used with that establishment.

Look for range.

Generally, the more locations you can use your credit card with, the better, so you might want to choose a credit card that can be used both nationally or internationally. If you dont see yourself leaving your locality for a long time, regional credit cards will work well for you.

Go for low interest rates.

When you're finding the best card among your credit card offers, look for one that has the low interest rates. Rates vary depending on the credit card company and sometimes, on the card itself, so it will be advantageous for you if you compared rates.

Low interest rates will be a good choice for you if you're the type of consumer who prefers to pay for your credit card purchases on an installment basis, with payments spread out for several months. That way, you won't be saddled with high monthly payments and end up paying more.

Other fees and features

Annual fees and penalties are another thing to watch out for when you're considering credit card offers. There are also corresponding fees for other transactions such as balance transfers and cash advances. You might also want to check what features come with a credit card, such as rebates, rewards programs, discounts, warranties and even insurance.

Mind the fine print.

The fine print can be deceiving, so make sure you read it before signing up. You might be attracted to one credit card because of the low interest rates only to find out later that the rates are part of an introductory offer and that you'll be saddled with a much higher APR after only a few months. A credit card offer is only as good as the fine print, so choose well.

Take charge.

You dont have to be passive about your credit card choice nor do you need o be stuck with what's being offered to you. Write down what your needs are and what kind of features you'd want in a credit card. Next, pick up the phone and ask several credit card companies for their best offers. If you take a more proactive role in choosing your credit card, you're more likely to find one that will fit you best.

I Love Italian Wine and Food - The Tuscany Region

I Love Italian Wine and Food - The Tuscany Region
by Levi Reiss

If you are looking for fine Italian wine and food, consider the Tuscany region of central Italy. You may find a bargain, and I hope that youll have fun on this fact-filled wine education tour.

Tuscany is located on the central western part of Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It gets its name from an Etruscan tribe that settled the area about three thousand years ago. It has belonged to the Romans, the Lombards, and the Franks. More than four hundred years ago under the Medicis, Tuscany became a major European center. It is undoubtedly one of Italys top tourist destinations as well as an ideal place for your villa when you hit it big, really big. According to one Seinfeld episode there are no villas to rent in Tuscany, but that was several years ago. On the other hand, time in Tuscany as elsewhere in Italy is measured in centuries. Tuscanys total population is about 3.5 million.

Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and the administrative center of Tuscany. It is one of Italys top tourist destinations, whose sites of interest are too numerous to list here. Siena and Pisa are two other major tourist destinations.

Tuscany is a center of industrial production, in particular metallurgy, chemicals, and textiles. Given the regions importance as an international art center for centuries, dont be surprised that it is an excellent place to appreciate and purchase fashion, jewelry, leather goods, marble, and other items of beauty. Florence is the home of the house of Gucci.

Tuscany produces a wide variety of cereal, olives, vegetables, and fruit. But not only vegetarians eat well. It is home to cattle, horses, pigs, and poultry. One local specialty is wild boar. On the coast, seafood is abundant.

Tuscany devotes over one hundred fifty thousand acres to grapevines, it ranks 4th among the 20 Italian regions. Its total annual wine production is about 58 million gallons, giving it an 8th place. About 70% of the wine production is red or ros, leaving 30% for white. The region produces 44 DOC wines. DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin, presumably a high-quality wine and 7 DOCG white wine. The G in DOCG stands for Garantita, but there is in fact no guarantee that such wines are truly superior. The region produces 9 DOC wines. Tuscany also produces Super Tuscan wines, wines that may not have a prestigious classification but that are known to be outstanding. These wines are arguably the main reason that Italy was forced to revise its wine classification system. Fully 55% of Tuscan wine carries the DOC or DOCG designation. And remember, many of Tuscanys best wines carry neither designation. Tuscany!

is home to more than three dozen major and secondary grape varieties, about half white and half red.

Widely grown international white grape varieties include Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Sauvignon Blanc. The best-known strictly Italian white varieties are Vermentino and Vernaccia.

Widely grown international red grape varieties include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The best-known Italian red variety is Sangiovese, which is grown elsewhere, including California. A strictly Italian variety is Canaiolo.

Before reviewing the Tuscan wine and cheese that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region.

Start with Panzanella, Bread and Tomato Salad.

For a second course, eat or share a Bistecca alla Fiorentina, (Texas-sized) Beef Steak.

If you have room, indulge in a Torta Rustica, Cornmeal Cake with Cream.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY While we have communicated with well over a thousand Italian wine producers and merchants to help prepare these articles, our policy is clear. All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Wine Reviewed

Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico 2004 12.8% alcohol about $21

Ill start by quoting the marketing materials. A wine that would complement a veal chop or game birds, expect aromas of cranberry and cherry. On the palate, it should be round and ripe with enough tannin for balance. As a point of interest, the label included the warning contains sulphites in ten languages.

I first tasted this wine with slow-cooked boneless beef ribs and potatoes accompanied by a spicy commercial Turkish salad. The wine was thick, loaded with plum and cherry flavors, and some tobacco. The tannins were moderate. Dessert was a cocoa cake whose label said strudel. The wine went well, its fruit really came out.

I next tasted the Chianti Classico with slow-cooked meat balls, cauliflower and chickpeas in a tomato sauce, and potato wedges. The wine was plumy and powerful, with very pleasant tannins, a little tobacco and a little earth. Just so you know, Im not usually partial to tannins. The wine was so round that I enjoyed finishing the glass when the food was gone. No dessert this time.

I decided to follow the distributors suggestion and grilled a veal chop with a mixture of spices (minced onion, cayenne, and a bit of curry powder), accompanied by grilled eggplant slices with the same spices, and a commercially prepared Turkish salad, based on red pepper and tomato. The wine bounced nicely off the delicious somewhat fat, somewhat rare meat. It didnt add flavors of its own, but accompanied the foods flavors excellently. It was powerful, but not overpowering.

As its name indicates, Pecorino Toscano cheese comes from Tuscany, where it has been made from sheeps milk for thousands of years. The cheese is moderately strong smelling and has a complex nutty flavor. The wine was smooth and round and had a pleasant tinge of tobacco. Just for the record I am not a smoker. In the presence of Asiago cheese from the Trentino-Alto Adige region of northern Italy, the wine became more robust.

I remember when Chianti came in straw-covered bottles. In fact, I remember the bottles more than the wine itself. But times have changed. This Chianti Classico was excellent, quite deserving of its top-of-the-line DOCG classification and well worth the price.

Socializing in Forums

Socializing in Forums
by Kaung Ko

The amount of random information available on the internet is absolutely staggering, some estimates suggest that there is more data available online than in all the world’s libraries and finding what you want to know can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

One of the biggest problems with finding anything online is that you never have any way of knowing whether the information that you are reading is trustworthy, let alone accurate.  Even the Wikipedia project, which many people rely on for information is regarded as sketchy by many universities, and without a balanced view, much of what you read on corporate websites can be misleading, if not downright nonsense.

Although we like to think that we live in an age in which we have easier access to more information than ever, sometimes it seems that we live in a world in which the right information is harder to find than ever.

Sure, you can type a phrase into Google, and get a million pages of results that “match your query”, but something that no search engine can give you is a bit of friendly advice, or a personal recommendation, and that is where other people come in.

On the internet, you can instantly connect to like minded people, and in this age of global communities, the best place to meet up for a chat is in one of the many internet forums.  Surfing the internet you can find forums or message boards where people can swap information, offer advice, or just catch up with old friends and keep up to date with the news.

Many online forums are dedicated to a specific subject such as football or web design, and these are great places to find out what’s going on, but a good forum is much more than a list of questions and answers. A good forum is a place where a community of people can share their experiences, socialize, and enjoy themselves.

In internet forums just like in the physical world you find honesty, wisdom, and more of the greatest commodity you can imagine, humor.

Members of Internet forums are people who care about a subject enough to want to get together with like minded individuals in order to keep up to date with the latest news, and also to introduce new people to a subject that they are passionate about.

If you join a forum like Chit Chat and become a contributor you will soon learn all about the other members, find out about what makes them tick, what they care about, and what they don’t like, and before you know it, you’ll find that they are your new friends.

Regular contributors to forums get pleasure not just from chatting about something they love, but also from passing on information to newer members, offering free advice and assistance about everything from chat about myspace though to chat about moon landings.

Whether you are interested in sport, video games, celebrity gossip, technology or any of the million and one other subjects out there, there is a free forum or internet chat room where you can learn more and get to know other people who share your passions.  A place where you can not only discover more about a particular subject or get the answer to a tricky question, but you can also get that help or advice, or answer from a person who cares enough to share it with you.

Online communities are the lifeblood of the internet, the medium that has replaced the village pump as somewhere that people can get together and socialize.  Fun forums take the surface sheen off the often confusing online world and give it a human touch that makes it more accessible, more understandable, and more friendly to anyone.

Anyone who posts regularly at an internet forum will soon get to know all about the other members, about all the things that make them tick, and all the things that make them mad, by getting together with people in online forums, you can meet like minded people from all over the world from the comfort of your chair, and pass the time in an easy and welcoming environment that makes making friends simple.

If you aren’t a regular poster at a forum, make sure the next time you visit one that you take the time to say hello to people, thank them for their advice, thank them for their friendship, and play your part in the community, and before you know it, you will be embraced by the others online, and become an important part of their online life, and they will become a part of yours as well.

family

family
by Rosemary Lichtman, Ph.D. & Phyllis Goldberg, Ph.D.

Now that your son has popped the question, the congratulations from your friends include some advice about the wedding: "smile, shut up and wear beige."

But it doesn't have to be like this. You have the right stuff to rewrite the rules without becoming the Mother-in-Law from Hell. You came of age during the sexual revolution, juggled career and family, broke new ground for women, enjoyed the role of superwoman. So if you don't plan to walk on eggshells around your daughter-in-law for the rest of your life, these tips are for you:

1. Be sensitive to your new role of in-law. Competition may surface with your daughter-in-law if she experiences you as supporting your son while they establish the ground rules in their own relationship. Help out when you can but don't overstep your boundaries. Debra learned "Even though I am very close to my son's wife, I wait for her to call me. And that has made all the difference."

2. The more facts you have about your daughter-in-law, the better it will be. Learn about her likes and dislikes. The average age for marriage in America is now 25 for women and 27 for men, so she has years of personal history to share with you. Get to know her and find out more about her childhood and relationships with her relatives. Ask questions, listen to the answers, and remember them.

3. Choose your battles. Be patient and let go of issues that are not crucial. Laugh to yourself about some of the petty concerns. Sandy related, "At first I was upset that my daughter-in-law never asked for any of my recipes. But then I realized that I didn't want this to turn into a 'food fight.' I could learn some new techniques from her and just enjoy her for who she is.

4. Begin to build a personal connection with your son's wife. Take this chance to enjoy each other as you share activities and experiences. Carol found that, "just going shopping together brought us new feelings of camaraderie. We could be focused on the hunt instead of on the tensions between us."

5. Place more value on the relationship than having your way. Don't hold it against your daughter-in-law if she doesn't see the world from your perspective. You can have more enjoyment as a mother-in-law by relinquishing power. Recognize that this is not a "zero sum game" - that is, there is not one winner and one loser - and you can all take pleasure in each other.

6. Share your frustrations with your life partner. When all else fails, and you are at your wits end, find support from your peers. Ann acknowledged, "Whenever I get angry about the relationship with my daughter-in-law, I call my friends. I don't feel so alone because they have some of the same problems. Commiserating takes off some of the pressure I feel. They really understand how it is to, all of a sudden, be totally out of the loop."

Your married children's lives are moving forward and so can yours. Focus your energy on taking care of yourself rather than on controlling them. This is a new chapter in everyone's life. You can best serve your emerging relationship with them, and your own personal growth as a member of the Sandwich Generation, when you choose to enjoy your new role of mother-in-law.
